About me

My name is Maria Wolf, and I am a native German speaker professionally engaged as a translator, interpreter, and German language instructor.

I am an expert translator in the field of mountaineering, with in-depth terminology knowledge of alpine safety, risk management, mountain rescue, tour planning, equipment, safety gear, and meteorology. This expertise is backed by years of personal experience in mountaineering, climbing, ski touring, canyoning, and speleology.

Since 2012, I have been living and working in northern Spain. As a qualified German teacher, I managed a small language school in Castro Urdiales, near Bilbao. I teach with passion and emphasize interactive and sustainable learning experiences. My teaching approach is shaped by my studies at the Institute for German as a Foreign and Second Language at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena. It is based on neuroscientific and psychological insights, focusing on learner motivation and individuality.

Since 2015, I’ve worked on a wide range of translation projects, including:

• Technical documentation for the automotive industry and mechanical engineering
• Internet content in the tourism sector, particularly mountain tourism and adventure sports
• Journalistic texts on domestic and foreign politics, economic topics, and international relations

I have deepened my professional qualifications through a Master’s degree at the Institute for Applied Linguistics and Translation Studies at the University of Leipzig, completed in January 2025. I'm proficient with modern translation technologies and experienced in managing translation projects in compliance with ISO 17100. I have specialized in legal translation (civil and criminal law) and have gained expertise in renewable energies, architecture, and construction. I also developed a keen interest in software localization through a project module. Additionally, I have completed several modules in the master program of Conference Interpreting where I acquired skills in simultaneous and consecutive interpreting and achieved excellent results.
